Automotive masking tape is built stronger: better edge sealing, higher temp tolerance, and it won’t leave glue behind on clear coat or trim. It’s purpose-built for the job.
Not if you’re using proper automotive masking tape. These tapes are designed to adhere well without pulling up paint or leaving sticky residue. Just don’t leave them on for too long - heat, sun, or prolonged contact can increase the risk, especially on older or freshly painted surfaces.
You'll want to tape off anything that shouldn't come into contact with polish, pads or heat. That usually includes rubber trims, plastic mouldings, badges, emblems, window seals, washer nozzles and edges of PPF or vinyl wraps. These areas can stain, discolour, or catch compound. Masking them keeps your polish job tidy and avoids unnecessary clean-up or damage.
