Car Glass & Windscreen Cleaners

Cleaning car glass is very simple when you have the right products. Unfortunately, a lot of the time a standard wash isn't enough to remove dirt and grime from your windscreens and car windows. The interior of your glass surfaces can also be left with oils, marks, dust, grime and fog, so an effective glass cleaning process makes maintaining your car much less of a headache.

We recommend a dedicated glass cleaner combined with a specialised glass cleaning microfibre cloth. Our glass cleaners contain the cleaning agents to lift dirt, grime, oils and other contaminants from your glass, but also a small concentration of solvents so any residue evaporates from the surface. That's what gives a streak free clean.

It's best to use a specialised glass microfibre towel, which usually has a circular or fine knit to help spread the product rather than absorb it. Two cloths works best: one to clean, a second dry one to buff. Spray onto the cloth rather than the glass on the inside, so you're not misting the dash.

Yes, every glass cleaner here is tint safe. The thing that damages window tint is ammonia, which is the active ingredient in most household glass cleaners. It breaks down the adhesive and the dye in the film over time, and it's the reason tint goes purple and bubbles.

Automotive glass cleaners like CARPRO Clarify, MIRCH Apollo Gaze and Koch Chemie GC are all ammonia free, so they're fine on the inside of a tinted window where the film sits.

Two things still worth doing. Use a soft glass cloth rather than paper towel, since tint scratches more easily than glass. And don't scrub at the edges of the film, where it's most likely to lift.

If you're unsure whether something's tint safe, the label will say. If it doesn't say, don't use it on the inside.

Windscreen haze can be tedious, but it's easily cleaned with the right windscreen and window cleaner.

Spray a dedicated glass cleaner onto the surface and wait a minute or two for it to break down the dirt and grime forming the haze. Spray a little more onto your glass cloth and begin to slowly wipe the haze away. If it's starting to feel grippy, or the film is really thick, apply more cleaner as you go.

If the haze is on the outside and won't shift with a cleaner, it's usually mineral deposits bonded to the glass rather than dirt sitting on it. That's a job for a water spot remover or, if it's bad, a glass polish.

A dedicated glass cloth, not a general microfibre. General cloths are built to absorb, which is right for drying a car and wrong for glass, since they soak the cleaner up before it's done its job and leave lint behind.

Glass cloths use a short, tight or circular knit that spreads the product across the surface and lets it evaporate. The Koch Chemie Pro Glass Cloth and Aquatouch COLONEL are both this type, and a GlassMitt does the same job with your hand inside it for reaching down the inside of a windscreen.

Keep them for glass only. A cloth that's been near a dressing or wax will smear that back onto the window every time.

The inside is harder than the outside, and it's where most streaking complaints come from. Two reasons: the film on inside glass is oily, from the plastics in the dash outgassing in the heat, and you're working at an awkward angle where you can't see what you're doing.

Spray the glass cleaner onto the cloth, not the glass, so nothing lands on the dash. Wipe the whole windscreen in one direction, then flip to a dry cloth and buff in the other. If you can still see smears, the first cloth is loaded with oil, swap it.

A glass cleaning kit with two cloths is the simplest way to set this up. For the bottom edge where the dash meets the glass, a GlassMitt or a cloth wrapped over your hand gets in where a flat cloth can't.
