FAQ's: Foam Cannons & Foam Guns
-
To use a foam cannon effectively, follow these steps:
- Prepare the foam cannon - Fill the foam cannon with your preferred snow foam and water at the correct dilution ratio. If you are unsure, check the product description of your snow foam. For example, Nv SNOW has a 1:8 dilution ratio.
- Connect to your pressure washer or garden hose - Attach the foam cannon to your pressure washer and ensure a secure, tight fit.
- Adjust the foam cannon settings - Adjust the foam thickness to your liking using the knob at the top of the unit, and if the foam cannon has a spray pattern setting, set that to your desired angle.
- Foam time - Starting from the bottom up, cover the entire car with the snow foam and allow it to sit for 3-5 minutes. Do not allow the foam to dry on the car.
- Rinse and proceed - Rinse off the foam thoroughly and continue with a contact wash if needed.

- Minimises the risk of scratches and swirl marks - A foam cannon applies a thick layer of pre-wash snow foam that gently lifts dirt and grime before hand washing.
- Provides a deeper, safer and more effective clean - The snow foam clings to the surface, allowing cleaning agents to break down road grime, grease and other contaminants more effectively than traditional bucket washing alone.
- Speeds up the washing process - A foam cannon quickly and evenly distributes foam across the vehicle, making the wash faster and more efficient. It also reduces the need for excessive scrubbing, which saves time and effort.
- Works with different setups - Foam cannons are mainly designed to attach to a pressure washer. However, if you don't have one and aren't looking at purchasing one, there are foam guns for garden hoses and pump sprayers in this collection.
- Helps maintain waxes and ceramic coatings - Many pH balanced snow foams are gentle on waxes, spray sealants and ceramic coatings, which helps preserve your car's protection while still delivering a deep clean.
- Creates a satisfying and professional wash experience - Using a foam cannon makes washing your car more enjoyable while giving you professional level results at home.

Choosing the right foam cannon depends on your budget, your equipment and how you wash. Here's a breakdown of the main options:
- Nv Snowstorm V2 - best value for performance
- Ideal for: car enthusiasts and professional detailers
- Why choose it? The Nv Snowstorm V2 delivers a thick, high quality foam with five different spray options, making it one of the best mid-range foam cannons on the market. It's built for durability and efficiency, giving you a professional level wash without breaking the bank.
- MTM foam cannons - premium performance
- Ideal for: professional detailers and enthusiasts after the best quality
- Why choose it? The MTM PF22.3 is a high end foam cannon designed for performance and durability. Adjustable foam density and spray patterns make it the go to option for anyone chasing professional results.
- Garden hose foam cannon - no pressure washer needed
- Ideal for: car enthusiasts without access to a pressure washer
- Why choose it? If you don't have a pressure washer and don't want to invest in one, a garden hose foam cannon like the MTM Garden Hose Foam Cannon is a solid alternative. It connects straight to a standard garden hose and gives you a thick foam layer without any extra equipment. Keep in mind the foam won't be quite at the level of a cannon on a pressure washer, purely because of the PSI difference.

If your foam cannon isn't producing thick foam, a few things could be affecting it. Here's what to check:
- Pressure washer PSI rating - For best results your pressure washer should be putting out at least 1500 to 2500 PSI.
- Foam to water ratio - Adjust the knob on your foam cannon for a thicker mix. If that doesn't help, you may need more snow foam in the bottle.
- Snow foam quality - Some soaps aren't designed for foaming. Make sure you're using a high foaming wash like Nv SNOW.
