Backing Plates & Machine Parts
FAQ's: Backing Plates & Machine Parts
No, they’re not. While some machines share the same thread size, switching backing plates between incompatible machines (like putting a 3" on a 5" polisher) can throw off balance, affect counterweights, and even void your warranty. Always check what size and type your machine is designed for. If you're unsure, feel free to contact us, we’re happy to help you find the right fit.
It’s pretty straightforward. Just insert the included Allen key into the main bolt at the base of the backing plate. Sometimes it might need a bit of extra force to break loose. Once it’s off, line up your new plate, tighten it back on, and you're ready to go. Always double-check that it's secure before use.
Not recommended. Rotary and dual action polishers work very differently, and their backing plates are built for different motion types. Using a rotary plate on a DA can affect balance, reduce performance, and potentially damage the machine or your results. Stick with a DA-specific backing plate for the best performance and safety.
It depends on how often you use your machine and how well you look after it. Over time, backing plates wear down from heat, pressure, and repeated pad changes. If the Velcro starts lifting, the surface feels uneven, or you're noticing vibrations, it might be time for a replacement. Keeping your machine clean and properly stored will help extend the life of your backing plate.
