As mentioned above, the main physical difference between the DA and Rotary Polishers is that the Dual Action Polisher uses an elliptical orbit to help with heat dispersion.

Rotary polishers work amazingly fast and due to their higher RPM, this usually results in Rotary Polishers having a higher and more powerful cutting ability than a DA polisher. However, running a polisher at a higher speed comes at a much higher risk (burning through clearcoat and pads) and usually leaves swirl marks, or marring that will need to be removed using a finishing pad and finishing compound.
