The CARPRO Decontamination Kit brings together some of the most useful prep products in the CARPRO range, giving you a proper process for cleaning the surface before polishing or applying protection.

Decontamination is one of those steps that makes a huge difference, especially if the paint feels rough after washing, has visible fallout, or you’re preparing the car for a wax, sealant or ceramic coating. A regular wash can remove loose dirt and road grime, but it won’t always shift bonded contamination sitting on the paint or glass.

This kit covers the key stages.

CARPRO IronX LimeScale handles the chemical decon stage, helping remove iron fallout while also targeting mineral deposits and limescale contamination. It’s a great first step before any mechanical decontamination, especially on cars exposed to brake dust, hard water, road film or general environmental fallout.

From there, CARPRO Claylube and CARPRO PolyShave work together to mechanically remove bonded contamination from paint and glass. PolyShave is a faster, reusable alternative to traditional clay, while Claylube provides the slick lubrication needed to reduce drag and make the process safer.

To finish the prep, CARPRO Eraser removes oils, polish residue, fingerprints and leftover surface films, helping waxes, sealants and coatings bond properly to the surface.

We’ve also included a 6 pack of Aquatouch General microfibre cloths, giving you a practical set of towels for wipe-downs, residue removal and general prep work.

This is the kit to reach for when you want the paint clean, smooth and properly prepared before correction or protection. Just keep in mind, mechanical decon can leave light marring on softer paints, so if you’re chasing the best finish possible, follow with polishing before applying your final protection.

1. Wash the vehicle thoroughly first to remove loose dirt and grime.
2. Working on a cool surface and out of direct sun, apply CARPRO IronX LimeScale to the paint or glass.
3. Allow it to dwell as directed, but do not let it dry on the surface.
4. Rinse thoroughly with water.
5. Spray CARPRO Claylube generously onto a small section of the paint or glass.
6. Glide the CARPRO PolyShave over the lubricated area using light pressure and straight-line motions.
7. Keep the surface well lubricated at all times. If it starts to grab, stop and add more Claylube.
8. Once the surface feels smooth, rinse or re-wash the vehicle if needed.
9. Dry the vehicle.
10. If polishing, complete your polishing stage now.
11. Spray CARPRO Eraser onto an Aquatouch General microfibre cloth and wipe the surface evenly.
12. Flip to a clean side of the towel and wipe again to remove any remaining residue.
13. The surface is now ready for wax, sealant or ceramic coating.
Note: Avoid using PolyShave on a dry surface. Lubrication is the key here — too little lube is one of the easiest ways to create unnecessary marring.

It really depends on what you’re trying to achieve, but for most people, PolyShave is a much faster and more convenient option compared to traditional clay bars.

PolyShave uses a rubber polymer surface instead of traditional detailing clay, allowing it to remove bonded contamination much quicker while also being reusable. If you drop a regular clay bar on the ground, it usually needs to be thrown out immediately to avoid scratching the paint. With PolyShave, you can simply rinse it clean and continue using it.
In most cases, using dedicated products like IronX LimeScale and Claylube separately will give you a better and safer decontamination process compared to an all-in-one product. While 2-in-1 products can work well for light maintenance, they often compromise somewhere, whether that’s iron removal strength, lubrication, or working time.

Using a dedicated iron remover first helps properly break down iron fallout and mineral contamination before touching the paint, reducing the amount of bonded contamination left behind for the PolyShave or clay stage. Then, moving onto Claylube gives you proper lubrication designed specifically for mechanical decontamination, resulting in a smoother and safer process overall, especially before polishing, waxing or ceramic coating.

Most exterior surfaces on a vehicle can benefit from decontamination, not just the paint. Paintwork and glass are usually the main focus, as they collect bonded contamination like iron fallout, road grime, mineral deposits and industrial fallout over time. Wheels are another major area, especially on daily driven cars where brake dust and iron contamination build up heavily.

Glass, gloss plastics and some trim pieces can also be decontaminated, although softer or delicate surfaces should always be approached carefully. Mechanical decontamination tools like PolyShave can mark sensitive finishes if lubrication is poor or pressure is excessive. It’s also important to remember that decontamination removes bonded contamination, not scratches, oxidation or deeper defects, so polishing may still be needed afterwards.
The easiest way to tell is by how the surface feels. After properly decontaminating the paint or glass, it should feel noticeably smoother instead of rough or gritty. During the PolyShave stage, you’ll often feel the towel dragging slightly at first as it removes bonded contamination, then gradually begin gliding smoothly once the surface is clean.

You’ll usually notice visual improvements too, with the paint appearing clearer, glossier and cleaner overall once fallout, mineral deposits and embedded grime have been removed. Just keep in mind, decontamination removes bonded contamination, if the paint still has swirls, oxidation or water spot etching, polishing may still be needed before applying protection.
