CARPRO CQUARTZ UK 3.0 Edition | Ceramic Coating

Before coating, the paint must be properly decontaminated: an iron remover to chemically break down contamination and, if the paint feels rough, a clay bar with lubricant. Machine polishing first will lock in a better finish for years. Our decontamination guide covers the types of contamination and how to remove them.

1. Wash with a neutral car shampoo. Avoid wash-and-coat products.
2. Decontaminate with an iron remover and, if needed, clay.
3. Quick re-wash to remove any residue.
4. Polish if there are swirls or marring you want gone. See our car polisher kits such as the Waxit Enthusiast Polishing Kit.
5. Wipe down with a panel prep spray such as CARPRO Eraser.
6. Work a 60 x 60cm area. Apply 4 to 6 drops to the suede cloth on the applicator block.
7. Apply in vertical passes, then overlap with horizontal passes.
8. The coating flashes almost immediately with a rainbow effect as solvents evaporate.
9. Wait 1 to 2 minutes, then level and remove residue. Slick and oily means too early; grabby means too late. A touch of grip is the sweet spot, but anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes works.
10. Repeat over the rest of the car.
11. Optional second coat after 1.5 to 3 hours (shorter in heat, longer in cold). More than two coats gives diminishing returns.

You'll also want CARPRO Eraser for final prep and clean microfibre towels for removal.

A ceramic coating is not set and forget. It repels dirt, grime, minerals, oils and water spots, but it isn't immune to them. Leave contamination baking on for weeks and it will degrade the coating and can etch into it.

• Wash every couple of weeks with a neutral shampoo and the two-bucket method.
• Every 6 months or so, a decontamination wash with CARPRO Descale or Iron X Snow Soap.
• Every month or so, top up with a spray coating: CARPRO Reload 2.0, NV Boost V2 or NV Jet.
• Avoid water for the first 24 hours after application; full cure is 24 to 48 hours.

Hatch or small sedan: 10 to 15mL per coat, so the 30mL kit is ideal. Large sedan, 4x4 or van: 15 to 20mL per coat, so the 50mL kit suits better.

• Paintwork: yes, this is what it's made for.
• Plastics: works, though CQUARTZ DLUX is the better choice. Not for rubber.
• Wheels and exhausts: works, but DLUX or NV Wheel handle heat better and last longer.
• Glass: side and rear only. Not the windscreen, it isn't built for wiper abrasion.

Is it a DIY coating?

Yes, one of the best. Prep the paint properly, work in controlled conditions and follow the flash and wipe timing. No pro tools needed.

How long before it can get wet?

Avoid water for 24 hours. If you must move the car, apply Reload after an hour for temporary protection.

Does the kit include everything?
